Kwara State Government has said that the administration is commitment to protect and secure the life of health workers assigned to render humanitarian service.
The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr Raji Razaq, made this known on Monday at Sobi Specialist Hospital while addressing the Issue that led to the protest of Nurses, alerting the state Government of their security which is most Paramount to the profession.
The Honourable Commissioner for Health ably represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Iliasu Tsado, appreciated the health workers for their dedication to serve the State and implore them not to take Laws into their hands, the State Government is on top of the situation which is still under investigation.
He therefore urged the Union leaders to control the members and all health workers should go back to their normal duties.
In his Own view the chairman Nursing and Midwifery Association Kwara State chapter, Comrade Aminu Sheu, explained the cause of the protest. A nurse, Mrs Eyitayo Serifat Hammed, who was on duty was beaten to Coma by the family of an HIV patient that lost his life in the hospital.
The Union leader said “this has been a reoccurring issue which almost cause a loss of life in a move to serve humanity, the said Health worker is a nurse and is in a critical state.
“We the entire Nurse in the State plead to the state Government to provide adequate Security in our hospitals across board.”
The Chief Medical Director Sobi Specialist Hospital, Dr Salamat Lawal, appreciated the state Ministry of Health ,the Management of Hospital Management Board, for their prompt action to rescue the hospital from embarrassment which may have cause more havoc in the State.
Though the security of health worker has been the utmost priority to the Administration of the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Malam Abdulraham AbdulRazaq, this was just revealed to all CMDs in the State last weekend.
She therefore urged all the staff of the Hospital to go back to their normal duties.While the State Ministry of Health will find a lasting solution to the challenge.
Also speaking the Director Medical Service and Training, Dr Johnson Oyeniyi, appealed to the family of the health worker affected to be calm and the State Government will look into the issue finding lasting Solution to it.
The Representative of Director General Hospital Management Board, Dr Nusirudeen Balogun, promise to tender all the challenges of the health workers at Sobi Specialist to the honourable Commissioner for Health Dr Raji Razaq which he reassured them of positive solution.
